Until 2018, the government-opposition struggle had undergone a profound transformation. In general, the political struggle in our country followed a simple scheme. It was not about ideas or the development of the country, but exclusively about a change of government. The main slogan of all the clashes was "the change of government" the ultimate goal of all the conflicts was the possession of administrative resources.
The main strategy of the opposition was to criticize the government for "robbery." The actual next step of the opposition after gaining seats in the parliament was to get crumbs from those same administrative resources, i.e. to take part in the "robbery." The theme of "robbery" in Freud's style is a slip of the tongue. It shows that the main topic of the political struggle is material.
In 2008, that scheme was disrupted. Formerly, a large number of political-economic "beau monde," which was completely removed from the government resources, rebelled, changing the rules of the game, and applied for full ownership of the state. We remember how it ended - with "March 1" events.
Serzh Sargsyan had a task to restore the previous rules of the game, which he managed to do. He released the prisoners of 2008 and returned the big opposition businessmen to the "market" by partially punishing them, and eventually appointed others to public offices as ambassadors, etc. In the next elections, he introduced "odious" figures in the parliament. Thus, the parliament of 2013 was the most flamboyant and diverse one in our history. With that step, everyone accepted the rules of the game and "recognized" the government in power.
That finally discredited the political parties, showing to the public the pornography of Armenia's political life in all its nakedness, where there were no principles, but everlasting interests.
There were two fronts left on the arena of political life: the government and the civil sector. The chief director, and at the same time the chief psychotherapist Serzh Sargsyan realized that he no longer needed such clients and patients. Thus, the Republican Party of Armenia - the treasurer of the government resources; the Prosperous Armenia Party - the symbol of the oligarchy; ARF-Dashnaktsutyun - the symbol of the feelings of nationalism that have not yet been extinguished and the Way Out (Yelk) Alliance, appointed as a symbol of the growing civic pole, appeared in the 2017 parliament. There were no other ideas in the "market".
It was not accidental that the incumbent Prime Minister felt this situation best (or was prompted by alien experts) and led by the trend of the civil theme, called his political party a "Civil Contract" based on the assumption that people perceive the processes with trends, since the political parties are dead and the "civics" have emerged.
Now let's come to nowadays. We have discredited political parties; fragments of the old splendor of a discredited civil movement that have turned to symbols of swearing, an incumbent government with no promise of present and future.
This is the reality that makes people desperate. And it is not yet clear what voter turnout to expect, should snap elections be held today. Also should we have the right to call the absent eligible voters irresponsible and indifferent to the fate of the country?
